Press Release
The Rancho San
Diego-Jamul Chamber Of Commerce Takes an Aggressive Stand on Fire Safety
and Disaster Preparedness Education
San Diego: June 2, 2008—
Volunteers are the key to the success of a community fire safe council. Partnerships between Fire Safe Councils and fire agencies ensure the greatest protection we can offer ourselves and our neighbors from the ravages of firestorms. As we learn about living with wildfire in Southern California, we understand the value of fire safe council volunteers creating defensible space around our homes, just as we become skilled in forming valuable partnerships with local, state and federal agencies
The Fire Safe Council of San Diego County and local fire safe councils work in partnership with local, state and federal agencies, stakeholders and individuals to provide locally-led conservation and fire management programs and services on the federal, state, and regional levels. Our first partnerships are with the San Miguel Consolidated Fire Protection District, the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County (FSCSDC) and the Resource Conservation District of Greater San Diego County whose staff provides educational outreach to help FSCs form. The mission of the FSCSDC is to establish partnerships that provide education, exchange information, and foster fire prevention and fire safety within the County of San Diego by working in partnership with local, state and federal agencies, stakeholders and individuals to provide locally-led conservation and fire management programs and services. As an Associate Member of the FSCSDC, San Miguel Regional FSC can provide education, outreach materials, fire information, workshops, training, build partnerships, conduct conferences, and help other communities develop their own Fire Safe Council, striving to be 100% prepared to handle fire disasters.
No community should be without an organized plan, which is best accomplished through educational partnerships. Educated communities are prepared communities. However, disasters can be more than just fire emergencies. The Rancho San Diego-Jamul Chamber of Commerce will help fire safe councils and communities to prepare for the additional possibilities of other unforeseen emergencies. Taking the initiative together to learn how to prepare and react together as a community is essential to creating a safe environment.
